No open thread since the one at 1:00 central time and no doubt there are others like myself with wee bits of news that want some place to share - put them. Since I have a huge surplus of unused diaries I figured I could volunteer one of mine.
Chat away and share the mojo.
My diary, so I get to post the first Open Thread like comments here in the body.
Have a SICKO Party over the holidays
Five steps to a good time, and being involved all at once!
1. Request a form, fill it out and send it to the California Nurses Assn (CNA) by email or otherwise: Sorry - this offer is now closed - Good news is there was a lot of great response.
2. You throw a party at your house. It could be as few as 3 to 5 people – or more – it’s up to you.
3. CNA sends you a SICKO House Party Kit. The Kit includes a free DVD of Michael Moore’s documentary "SICKO" for you to keep! Again - Sorry - they are now out of these House Party Kits except for their members.
4. You show the movie, have a good time with friends, and do something to get the profit out of healthcare in Amerika. (Like get everyone to sign this petition or write letters to the editor.)
5. Have fun & learn about the healthcare crisis in this country and how Single Payer can work.
New York Times in Iraq: "Blackwater shot our dog"
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The U.S. embassy in Iraq is investigating another deadly shooting incident involving its Blackwater bodyguards -- this time of the New York Times's dog.
Staff at the newspaper's Baghdad bureau said Blackwater bodyguards shot Hentish dead last week before a visit by a U.S. diplomat to the Times compound.
Blackwater spokeswoman Anne Tyrrell said the dog had attacked one of Blackwater's bomb-sniffer dogs while a security team was sweeping the compound for explosives.
"The K-9 handler made several unsuccessful attempts to get the dog to retreat, including placing himself between the dogs. When those efforts failed, the K-9 handler unfortunately was forced to use a pistol to protect the company's K-9 and himself," she said in an e-mail to Reuters.

Update: California Nurses are no longer able to offer the House Party Kits and DVDs - but I am leaving the rest of the info up, hoping that some who already have the DVD or are want to buy it, will still follow through with their own parties for Universal Health Care.
